The Coolest People I Know: Sydney Anderson

Describe yourself in three words.
Caring, thoughtful, optimistic

What’s your favorite The Head & the Heart song?
Currently – Let’s Be Still; I don’t even have words to describe this song. It’s INCREDIBLE. I could listen to it on repeat for days (and have been). I love everything about it- the message, the tune, the lyrics, and the fact I never get tired of it. It’s the perfect summer song for driving into the sunset with the windows rolled down.

Of all time – Rivers And Roads; as cliché as it sounds. It’s been apart of my life for so long, and it gives me all of the feels and brings back so many memories. This song somehow finds its way onto a majority of my playlists, and it never fails to make me emotional. I could listen to it any mood and it always will hold a special place in my heart.

Describe your ideal adventure.
Oh boy. This is a tough one. I don’t even know if I can narrow this down.
Well, after recently roadtripping across Costa Rica with my best friends, I would have to say I would want to do something like that all over again because it was that amazing.

So, I guess it would have to be my best friends & me roadtripping across the United States in a blue Volkswagen van with good vibes music (The Lumineers, Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, Coldplay, etc.) playing nonstop. We would make our way across the country, stopping at every national park or a town that’s just too cute to pass by. Each night would end with a picture perfect sunset and hours spent stargazing. I really don’t think I could ask for anything greater than that.

Why do you like writing?
It’s so personal. For me, journaling is a way to express what’s going on in my life and not have to meet anyone’s expectations. I love how honest it can be and how relieving it is to write about stuff that may be hard to talk about. I also like how I can see self improvement from it. Not just in my writing, but also in my life. I’ve been able to see personal growth, all due to the words that I’ve written down. One of my favorite things to do is go back and read things I wrote in the past…there’s so many little memories/moments/conversations of my life that I would have forgotten about if I didn’t write them down.

What’s your favorite quality about yourself?
I do my best to live in the moment. It’s quite a process to truly do it, and sometimes I forget, but it’s so rewarding. I really made an effort to do this more often this summer, and it’s been one of my best decisions yet. By putting my phone away and truly appreciating the world & those around me has impacted me immensely. I have a new love towards the world and the people in it, and have experienced so much more by living each moment to the fullest.

Miss Syd is as close as it gets to a literal ray of sunshine. I’ve never met someone that loves all of the same things as me—just as much as me. From our favorite street in Des Moines (Ingersoll Avenue) to the best music (The Head & the Heart, please) to food (chicken salad sandwiches), this wonderful human is my soul sister. I’ve never met someone I’m so compatible with that inspires me to be better every time I’m around her. I’m looking forward to our many adventures ahead, because there will be plenty. xx
