Describe yourself in three words.
Thoughtful, Genuine, Unconventional
How did you end up at Fordham University?
It’s actually a funny story- my Mom barely let me apply because of the distance and kept saying “Chloe you are not going there”. Come April, I somehow convinced her to fly out with me to visit. We both ended up falling in love with the campus and I decided to attend shortly after.
What’s the best part about living in New York?
New York City has an energy that’s hard to explain. The busyness, the different cultures, the opportunity all combines to be the perfect place to find oneself and go seek out the world in its entirety. I feel motivated, optimistic, and inspired when walking through the streets in a way I never have before.
How have you grown in the past year?
I think it is fair to say I am a totally different person than I was a year ago. Although, I think I will be brand new a year from now as well.
As much as I hate to admit, I think all of high school I was so worried about others and how they felt about me (cliche I know). As a coping mechanism, I would put others before myself and gave the responsibility of my happiness to other people- sometimes, to people who could care less.
Now, my happiness is my own to use and abuse. That’s how it should be. I have met the best people here at Fordham who make me feel secure and loved which helps immensely.
And probably to no one’s shock, moving across the country has really changed me. I see the bigger picture of life. I also look back at my life, and the turns it’s taken, and it makes sense. All those ups and downs finally make sense. I trust my struggles now. They got me to this point so far. I don’t know have any idea where I am going but I know where I have been.
Favorite musicians? Genres? Literature?
My music taste is across the board really… lately I have been to m0re or less soulful females (Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Sara Bareilles) but Life of Pablo usually makes a daily appearance- it really is perfect for a pick-me-up.
I have been watching Portlandia and Bob’s Burgers to combat my stress with schoolwork.
This is a shortlist of my favorite books: We Were Liars, Anthropology of an American Girl, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, The Great Gatsby, and The Opposite of Loneliness
For literature, I have been reading more dealing with women’s empowerment. I am reading Z for Zelda which is about Zelda Fitzgerald, she’s amazing. I also have been indulging in poetry by Warsan Shire, her work was featured in Beyonce’s Lemonade film. I am going to try to start following/reading the books in Emma Watson’s feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf.
Miss Chloe is such a special person in general, but to me she means so much. I’ve never not been inspired by her fashion forward style, bubbling personality, or gracious heart. It’s people like her that make me appreciate how different everyone is and how worthwhile friendships and self love are. Best wishes to this lovely dear as she explores New York. xx
