La La La

1

1. Fake Empire // The National
I like this because 1) a good friend introduced it to me 2) there’s something about the way the piano makes a beautiful cluster of notes that hits my heart 3) I appreciate the way it builds; every tempo and phase of it makes me really happy.

2. When U Love Somebody // Fruit Bats
At first, the intro turned me away, but after I listened to it a few times, I like it because of the intro. The words are relatable; there’s so many analogies that I love. “When you love somebody and you bite your tongue, all you get is a mouthful of blood.” “When you love somebody, it’s hard to think of anything but to breathe.”

3. All Will Be Well // Gabe Dixon Band
I was introduced to this song during a time that I needed to hear it— ‘All will be well.’ The song itself is beautiful, and the words are oh so lovely and calming.

4. Black Metal // Max Jury
I rarely listen to the radio on Spotify, but that’s where I found this one. It’s a melancholy track—almost sad, but not quite.

5. Pulaski At Night // Andrew Bird
The way this song takes its time to get going grabbed my attention; it’s more than worth the wait. I’m also continuously intrigued by the strings that never seem to cease.

6. Heart’s Content // Brandi Carlile
Holy wow. This always makes me happy, and it makes me awe-filled with my own love and the people I share it with. The lyrics, the tune, the voice, the mood it presents—I can’t get enough of it, ever.

7. Sleepy Little Town // The White Buffalo
This song always comforts me, and there’s not much more to say about than that; it’s a safe haven.

8. Love Train // The O’Jays
This song introduces a lovely thought—international love. What an idea. I can’t help but get up and dance when I hear it.

9. Girlfriend // Phoenix
Such an underrated song from one of the most underrated bands. I’m in love with this alternative, French band. So much. Every part of the song inspires me and makes me feel like I can do anything in the world.
