A Universal Language

fitz and the tantrums

It’s overwhelmingly mind boggling to think that one recording of one song can be played on the radio, purchased on iTunes, added on Spotify and Soundcloud, illegally downloaded, blared at games and events, used for the background of videos, covered by other artists, and sung my millions of people, millions of times. Isn’t that crazy?

One song can be the bond between friends, love, a memory, a moment in time we long to go back to. It can inspire, transform, and call people to dream bigger and do bigger.

It’s also crazy how much music can be wasted—meaning undervalued and unappreciated. It can be “listened” to in a mindless manner, which isn’t always a bad thing. There are times when that’s all you need: background noise. But when you take a moment to realize that someone is making their living through that song, it’s sad to think that it’s merely in the background of someone’s life.
